Rituals in Motion: Shamanism, Performance and Cultural Exchange between Italy and Korea

Spadonari Giaglione

The Italian Cultural Institute in Seoul (IIC Seoul) and the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Korea (ITCCK) are pleased to invite you to an exclusive lecture and networking evening.

How do ancient ritual traditions survive, transform and circulate in contemporary culture?
This lecture explores a surprising dialogue between two distant yet deeply connected worlds – the ritual and performative heritage of Italy and the vibrant symbolic universe of contemporary
Korea – tracing unexpected parallels between ritual imaginaries in popular culture and the new media and cultural economies of today.
Drawing on fieldwork conducted in the Italian Alps and Sardinia, and engaging with the rich performative and ritual dimension of K-culture, anthropologist Caterina Angela Agus invites the
audience on a cross-cultural journey that challenges conventional boundaries between tradition and modernity, folklore and media, East and West.

About the Speaker
Caterina Angela Agus is an Italian cultural anthropologist and social designer affiliated with CREA – Centro Ricerche Etno Antropologiche. Her work combines fieldwork, qualitative
research and community-based approaches across cultural and social contexts, with a particular focus on ritual and performative traditions in the Italian Alps and Sardinia and their unexpected dialogues with contemporary Korean culture.
